Links to instructive materials and smart reference sites regarding either Avian Influenza H5N1, or to the concepts of Pandemic Influenza.
Aspects pertaining to care and prevention of worker issues regarding these topics. This means special workforce situations (eg. poultry and healthworkers).
Organizational needs regarding public health aspects or population concerns, including contingency management plans for major absenteeism and illness.
Plans and programs created by other professionals responsible for Occupational & Environmental Health issues. Plans, spreadsheets, flow-charts, essays, ideas, commentary are collected.
Home page (this one), serves as introduction and directory. The OHDEN concept is introduced and links to the OHAC organization are provided. General reference sites are described and linked.
The Federal page provides a detailed but incomplete compendium of links to sites in the U.S. Federal governmental resources, including NIOSH, CDC, NIEHS, NIH, NLM, EPA, DHS, DHHS. Many are already assembled at PandemicFlu.gov , but these do not selectively emphasize the issues regarding workplace and workforce issues.
International resouces about pandemic issues are available from multi-national organizations and from other countries' national programs. Australia's program was the earliest and best tool available.
The page dedicated to the "Community" of Occupational & Environmental Health professionals represents unique contributions from our own colleagues, in Medicine, Safety, Nursing, Hygiene and Human Relations. Many are subscribers of the Occ-Env-Med-L free international maillist, and thus have been able to discuss and share resources quite readily. Teaching materials and corporate plans are available. State and local plans will also be stored here.
It is to be expected that each category will receive periodic updates, as new resources become available. Links to these new additions will be listed at the specific Update page, with dates and internal links provided for access and reference.
This complex of materials is intended as both a substitute and a prototype for the eventual materials that will constitute OHDEN. Unfortunately, the Occupational Health Advisory Committee (OH-AC) organization is not yet funded. Once funds are available, the OHDEN process will provide much more than the materials seen here. In addition to the web-links and community contributions (as included here) regarding generic disaster preparedness, OHDEN will provide:
Please visit the OHDEN project site for more details about the organization's mandate, history, links to supporting organizations, and roster of the present leadership. If opportunities for sponsorship are identified, please contact any of us, or directly to Dr. Greenberg.
The OH-AC organization (and the eventual OHDEN) derives directly from a several-years collaboration by the American College of Occupational & Environmental Medicine's Emergency Preparedness / Bioterrorism effort. The information at the Emergency Preparedness website are practical, impressive and opportune.

Reference Sites on Avian Influenza & PandemicsThis is an amazing, dynamic, self-monitoring group effort that offers more than the page you're now looking at ever could or will. It is aimed at the general public and scientific literate readers. It has a separate page for Business Continuity that focuses on Occupational Health issues. I have linked to here (OHDEN) from their site.

effective, not reassuring, aimed at both lay and clinical readers.

Several lengthy essays on flu pandemic topics, and an impressive list of 50+ links to general educational sites, specific papers and online tools, graphics, monitoring sites. Though a .ORG, the site is apparently supported with (lots of) advertising.

Fee-based advice is now available from for-profit sources. To be fair, it seems reasonable to list / link those that are mentioned, especially if some information is provided to the public.at an open website. International SOS provides a Public Area, as well as a closed Clients/Members' Area. Higher levels of fee-based advice and planning are available as customized consults. One OEM-L subscriber stated that corporate plans were available "$5K to $15K for consulting". Pandemic Preparedness Protocols for memebers are described to include 120+ pages for employers, in additional to individualized advisory services. The free site includes detailed news tracking, travel advisory, and several Webinars for free playback. A University Plan (12/05), Pandemic Webinar (9/05) as well as an Executive Overview (11/05) are available.

Shoreland has been publishing information resources and producing counseling tools for travel medicine practitioners since 1986. TRAVAX EnCompass unifies Shoreland's information products in a single browser-based package, giving you a common resource for providing travel health services. Links to their site requires free registration, immediate confirmation, then password. Downloads listed below were contributed by Shoreland's president for OHDEN to share with Occup. Health professionals from our own site, and are available here at OHDEN.
Maps, many, many! of the distribution of H5N1 influenza across the world. These include graphical kinetic studies, human-only, bird-only, overlaid bird migration, swine and poultry density ... you-name-it. These were prepared by BBC, WHO, many other publications. These are very worthwhile, and quite compelling. The page came to my attention when it was found that in some maps, Taiwan had been colored as having H5N1 cases, but only as a shared color with mainland China. No cases actually had occurred in Taiwan proper.
Maps, stories, Q&A for public, Plans (for UK), poultry and bird tracking stories
